Making Friends #3: Third Time'south a Charm is at present definitely one of my very favourite books. Information technology had everything I like: a misunderstood, kind-of-nice-looking villain (wink wink), girl power, magic, middle school, alternating reality, night humour, adorable pastel-tinged illustrations, and chimera tea! Dear!

Dany and Madison are back, simply with an entirely new life. Their mom writes novels and their dad is a famous rock star. They believe they're sisters. And, the world seems completely: 1) Futuristic, and 2)Perfect. They're enrolled in a fancy-pants school for the "financially gifted" (which in my stance seemed a footling regrettable simply...eh) and Dany is now a expert student.

Soon plenty, the girls meet Amara St. Cloud, a whimsical purple-haired girl who is aloof and seems to exist hiding something. After a trip to a boba tea shop (whose owner turns out to be someone they know...) they visit her mansion'due south basement and acquire about the magic that they have forgotten. That's when things get crazy.

All in all, this book was awesome. It'south my favourite one yet (and believe me, I LOVED the first two), only at the same fourth dimension, I actually felt disappointed about the ending. It stops at such a night fleck, with no magic, no notebook, and no Madison. Also, I wish we could have constitute out what happened to Amara'southward mom. I give this book four/five stars, only considering the art was cute, the character evolution was nice, and it was magical. Please write volume Number 4!!!

P.S. I've been reading the reviews for the Making Friends serial and in that location'due south a lot of people beingness a bit harsh. Y'all could say, "I didn't savor information technology very much" but you don't have to telephone call it "terrible" or tag it as "never talk about it once more". I have a feeling if Kristen Gudsnuk reads those comments she'll exist very offended. Some people fifty-fifty said that the art was awful. However, I do understand that freedom of speech is important. I just feel like people should be respectful. This website should be peaceful, peeps. :three

I merely read this book last nighttime. I read it in ONE HOUR. I like to call this binge-reading, similar binge-watching, but for books. I only rampage-read books that are amazing, and this book was beyond amazing. After reading a page, I swear I always caught myself maxim something like, "whoa," or "no style," or "whaaaat?!" considering I was so shocked by the plot twists! Ane of the things I love most this series is that it's fantasy, at that place's a lot of girl power but also middle-form drama. It's really hard I but read this volume final night. I read it in ONE 60 minutes. I like to call this binge-reading, like binge-watching, simply for books. I only binge-read books that are amazing, and this book was across amazing. After reading a page, I swear I always caught myself saying something like, "whoa," or "no way," or "whaaaat?!" because I was and then shocked past the plot twists! Ane of the things I love well-nigh this series is that it'southward fantasy, there's a lot of daughter ability but also centre-course drama. It's really hard to find a adept magic serial that likewise includes that middle-class friend drama element. I'm very picky about many things, including books, but this serial is, in my opinion, pitch-perfect. I would not modify a thing about it. Nonetheless, this book in particular made me very, VERY upset!! I cannot stop thinking about the crazy ending! I swear, if Kristen Gudsnuk doesn't brand a fourth book and this is how it all ends... UGH! Information technology's similar the Max Crumbly books (which, BTW, are also slap-up, for girls and boys!). Those books literally e'er end with cliff-hangers. I hate cliff-hangers! However, it is a pretty smart movement on the author's office. It leaves fans wanting more. I don't desire to spoil anything virtually the style information technology ended if you haven't read this book notwithstanding, only let'due south just say it was crazy! It made me so sad and mad! Dany has been through then much crazy magic stuff and now... Well, what happened simply is not fair. The quote, "It's like, a paper cut HURTS, simply if you break your arm, yous don't really feel the paper cutting anymore," fabricated me just SO pitiful. I experience besides many feelings at once! Anyway, like I said, I'll try not to give spoilers, so I will exit it at this: This volume is amazing, for middle-graders and people of older and younger ages (depending on their sense of taste in books, that is) and I'll bet you wouldn't come across all the incredibly zany plot twists coming from a mile away! k% recommended! :) ...more than

3.v. The books in this series definitely don't get better as they get on, but I still enjoy reading them. They are lite and fun and I don't think they should be taken as well seriously. This was just as fun and witty as the previous books. The plot twists are a doozy!! Dany is such a circuitous grapheme and in that location were a few moments in this book where my centre positively ached for her. This was really terrible, especially because volume one made me laugh AND weep?? It's 1 of my favorite kids graphic novels of all fourth dimension and at present we get this nonsensical plot and messing writing. I don't even empathize the ending, it barely had any of the charm we run into in the kickoff and second volume (fifty-fifty though the second volume is mush slower than the first). Even the illustrations were cluttered and felt messy. This is bad.

I read the first two books in this series so I know what happened previously and yet I yet felt similar this book started in the middle of a story. I was a scrap confused for a while. I didn't like the way Dani's mom acted in this one. Information technology was weird and mean. I'thousand a chip confused past the ending. Was it all a dream? A new reality? Clearly we are let with a lot of questions so I actually promise there volition be a fourth book. Overall I enjoyed the story, and I love the fine art.

Hang out with sisters Madison and Dany as they head to a new prep school and meet poor lilliputian rich girl Amara who is desperate for some friends, especially ones who also believe magic is real. But what is going on? These aren't the Dany and Madison we met before, and something shady is up with Amara's family. Who has the magical notebook now and how are they using information technology?

This one threw me for a little bit of a loop when I outset started reading. You go into information technology and it acts like everything is normal, merely these aren't quite the characters you lot've met before. And yous kickoff wondering if you remember things right or non...and so eventually y'all realize someone has been using the notebook and it all becomes clear. Well, more often than not. There'southward some threads left dangling I'one thousand guessing will be addressed in a future volume. So when I beginning put it downwards I was thinking, 'That was but weird.' Only on further contemplation I call up it is a pretty brilliant way to demonstrate how even the near well-meaning of people wouldn't do a dandy job running the globe without some omniscience. If you or I had the chance to rewrite the world into what you call up would exist a utopia, nosotros'd probably drop the brawl in several respects and end up making a grand mess in many areas, which is basically what has happened in this. And then I like this for getting readers thinking most how much control is practiced for 1 limited, finite person to agree. And I think you could have some not bad conversations with a book club about it if y'all really dug deep. It does take a little time though to go past the weird and see the gems hidden in this, though. Total side annotation, just equally someone living in Asia where chimera tea sightings are an almost daily thing, I constitute the placing of the boba in the bubble tea in all of the illustrations jarringly wrong. But considering it is and then consistent (it is fatigued with the boba on top instead of on the bottom in every single panel it appears in, and that's about 12 places including on the encompass) and because it is so glaringly wrong, I'm wondering if it isn't an art editing miss and possibly was washed on purpose to clue readers in quite early that something is off with this world??? I have several middle schoolers who Dear this series, and then I'grand sure it volition circulate exceedingly well as shortly as it hits the shelves. I'll be interested to hear what they think of it.

Notes on content: No linguistic communication bug that I remember. No sexual content. There's some magical battles and manipulation some of which make people disappear and/or modify their personality against their volition. There are some parent/child relationships that could use a whole lot of therapy because they aren't good for you and are a lot manipulative.

Recommends information technology for: Ppl who liked the first ii books
I dearest this book's energy. Information technology's erratic, stupid, and empty-headed just in an admittedly endearing way. Information technology's like the author mixed v magical girl animes, a loving cup of chopped kale, and a dash of quirkiness into a blender on high. There's a hodgepodge of things I dearest: the anime references (endeavour counting them all! It's fun!), the bubble tea, the magical realism bits, the business concern jokes, the humor, etc. Like, did y'all make this serial for me???

I honey this book'southward energy. It'south erratic, stupid, and dizzy but in an absolutely endearing way. Information technology'due south like the author mixed five magical girl animes, a cup of chopped kale, and a dash of quirkiness into a blender on high. In that location'south a mishmash of things I love: the anime references (endeavour counting them all! Information technology's fun!), the bubble tea, the magical realism bits, the business organization jokes, the humor, etc. Similar, did y'all make this series for me???
"I'm just another awful affair in this world that needs fixing. I'm like world hunger" (pg 85).

Now, this is one of the few books where I HAD to read the synopsis to know what was going on. Because also many things had inverse from the commencement 2 books. The plot could perhaps turn some readers off or misfile them, but, if you like this series, I call up you already bask the messy, fast-paced storytelling. A nitpick is Dany gets a 1-page character evolution that doesn't feel completely earned. Other things don't go explained well either. The artwork has gotten more than off-model than before, but information technology wasn't a business organization for me.

This series has never shied away from darker implications or psychological-pondering ones. This alternate reality has been made past one person, and information technology shows the weight that comes from making a world to your own liking. Similar, could making everything good be a bad thing? Where does freewill come into play?

Also, Dany's struggle with social awkwardness will also be very relatable. There are moments when she pretends non to know about a fandom/tv evidence to appear likable or brags about things she thinks will brand her absurd. A darker element of the book is Dany'due south need to conform and be accepted to the point she'll stifle her true self. Some other betoken involves parents trying to change their kids' personalities. (view spoiler)[ i was Then disappointed in the mom for literally rewriting Dany'due south personality. that's messed up. (hibernate spoiler)] The Prince Neptune stuff will always crack me up, and I loved that he got some spotlight here. It reminds me when I thought Kisshu/Quiche from Tokyo Mew Mew was so cool until I realized how toxic he was when I got older.

Anyhow, I know this series won't appeal to anybody, but I certainly had fun reading it. Making Friends: Third Time's a Charm has a certain charm. I likewise think this was the finish of the series, right?
